Your scenario and task

Lewis King is attending a staffed day clinic for prescribed fluid replacement. Review the signed order and available equipment, describe the infusion care and record your working and plan. Casey and the GP are available.

What this type of station practises

Connect the fluid order to the person’s current assessment, access site and fluid balance. Be ready to explain a discrepancy and seek clarification.

In “A gravity infusion in the day clinic”, use the task in the reading card to decide what to assess, explain and record in gp. Practise reviewing a fictional infusion order, describing a site assessment and handing over a fluid balance concern. Calculation practice should retain units and use the supplied order and equipment details.

These are general rehearsal aims, not the answers to this scenario. Respond to information obtained during practice rather than a memorised solution.

Say-and-do preparation

Prepare the sequence and language with a related checklist. Online rehearsal develops thinking and explanations; physical technique needs supervised in-person practice.
