Your scenario and task
Pippa James has a prescribed IV fluid infusion due. Review the order and bedside equipment, explain and describe the nursing care, and complete the fluid record. Casey is available for checking and Dr Lee can be contacted.
What this type of station practises
Connect the fluid order to the person’s current assessment, access site and fluid balance. Be ready to explain a discrepancy and seek clarification.
In “A prescribed infusion on the medical ward”, use the task in the reading card to decide what to assess, explain and record in ward. Practise reviewing a fictional infusion order, describing a site assessment and handing over a fluid balance concern. Calculation practice should retain units and use the supplied order and equipment details.
These are general rehearsal aims, not the answers to this scenario. Respond to information obtained during practice rather than a memorised solution.
Say-and-do preparation
Prepare the sequence and language with a related checklist. Online rehearsal develops thinking and explanations; physical technique needs supervised in-person practice.
