Your scenario and task

Paul Evans is in a staffed community outreach clinic. A signed fluid order specifies gravity delivery with a labelled giving set; no pump is required under this service plan. Calculate the drop rate, check the setup with the second RN and demonstrate monitoring. Complete the fluid record. The patient answers personal questions; the examiner supplies requested examination findings. Dr Taylor Singh is reachable by phone. RN Alex Morgan is available.

What this type of station practises

Connect the fluid order to the person’s current assessment, access site and fluid balance. Be ready to explain a discrepancy and seek clarification.

In “Calculating a gravity infusion under an outreach order”, use the task in the reading card to decide what to assess, explain and record in community. Practise reviewing a fictional infusion order, describing a site assessment and handing over a fluid balance concern. Calculation practice should retain units and use the supplied order and equipment details.

These are general rehearsal aims, not the answers to this scenario. Respond to information obtained during practice rather than a memorised solution.

Say-and-do preparation

Prepare the sequence and language with a related checklist. Online rehearsal develops thinking and explanations; physical technique needs supervised in-person practice.
