Your scenario and task
You are the RN in a community nursing service. Tessa Brown, aged 61, is receiving short-term IV hydration through a community nursing service. The current pump setting appears different from the written order. Check the patient and order, calculate the intended rate and respond to the discrepancy. Complete the supplied practice record. You and the patient are in the room; assistance can be called. You have eight minutes; describe and select physical actions in this online exercise.
What this type of station practises
Connect the fluid order to the person’s current assessment, access site and fluid balance. Be ready to explain a discrepancy and seek clarification.
In “A pump setting that differs from the home order”, use the task in the reading card to decide what to assess, explain and record in community. Practise reviewing a fictional infusion order, describing a site assessment and handing over a fluid balance concern. Calculation practice should retain units and use the supplied order and equipment details.
These are general rehearsal aims, not the answers to this scenario. Respond to information obtained during practice rather than a memorised solution.
Say-and-do preparation
Prepare the sequence and language with a related checklist. Online rehearsal develops thinking and explanations; physical technique needs supervised in-person practice.
