RN OSCE Preparation Plan: From Gaps to Rehearsal
Prepare from the published examination scope and your own gaps: clinical assessment, communication, documentation and physical technique. Combine original timed rehearsal with supervised hands-on practice; no course or script can guarantee a pass. RN OSCE Candidate Handbook, 7 July 2026.

How do I prepare for the Australian RN OSCE?
Make a baseline from a fictional task
Read an original candidate card and identify what is being asked. Explain your assessment, respond to information as it becomes available and finish with a clear next step. Review what you actually said and recorded, rather than only whether you remembered a topic. Use the handbook scope to identify areas you have not practised. RN OSCE Candidate Handbook, 7 July 2026.
Practise decisions as well as sentences
Change the fictional patient, concern and available information between rehearsals. Explain what you need to clarify instead of inventing observations. Clinical communication should respond to the person and situation; a memorised sequence that ignores new findings can leave the task incomplete. RN OSCE Candidate Handbook, 7 July 2026.
Use equipment and supervision for physical skills
Online talk-throughs organise your explanations and intended sequence, but they cannot observe aseptic technique, equipment handling or a physical examination. Arrange supervised practice for the relevant skills. Ask for specific feedback about what you did, the reason and the next correction. RN OSCE Candidate Handbook, 7 July 2026.
Build a sustainable plan
Alternate focused skill practice with complete timed tasks and written records. Review one concrete gap, practise the correction, then try a different fictional scenario. Allow rest and travel preparation before the allocated exam. The plan should fit your demonstrated needs; there is no evidence here for a universal study duration or a guaranteed success rate. RN OSCE Candidate Handbook, 7 July 2026.
