IQNM Stream A, B & C: Which RN Route Applies?

Self-check assesses your qualification and assigns the applicable IQNM steps. Stream A and Stream B follow different assessment requirements; nationality alone does not decide your stream. RN OSCE Candidate Handbook, 7 July 2026.

What is the difference between IQNM Stream A and Stream B?

Stream A: qualification evidence still matters

A substantially equivalent qualification, or one based on similar competencies, may lead through Stream A. This is not registration by nationality: Ahpra still checks the documents and the applicant must meet the registration standards. Use the actual Self-check outcome rather than someone else’s route. NMBA assessment stages.

Stream B: the outcomes-based assessment route

A relevant qualification that is not substantially equivalent may lead to Stream B. Follow Orientation, Portfolio and examination instructions in your dashboard. For registered nurses the examinations are NCLEX-RN and then the RN OSCE. Passing a knowledge examination does not demonstrate practical competence or complete registration. NMBA assessment stages.

Stream C and qualification assessment

Self-check can indicate that a qualification needs assessment or an upgrade. Do not purchase OSCE preparation as proof that you have been accepted into Stream B. Follow the individual outcome and ask Ahpra about missing or incorrect qualification information. NMBA assessment stages.

The newer IQRN standard is a separate eligibility check

Eligible nurses with registration and practice in a listed comparable jurisdiction may have a streamlined route. Original training, subsequent registration and practice evidence all matter. This should not be reduced to “all overseas nurses need OSCE” or “any NCLEX pass avoids OSCE”. Check the current standard and evidence requirements. NMBA internationally qualified RN registration standard.
