Your scenario and task

You are the RN in a general practice clinic. Maria Costa, aged 45, has sudden breathlessness in the clinic. The GP is in another room and can be reached by the clinic telephone. Assess urgency, call the GP using ISBAR and arrange appropriate emergency assistance. Complete the supplied practice record. A second RN is available. The doctor can be telephoned. You have eight minutes; describe and select physical actions in this online exercise.

What this type of station practises

Make a clear clinical request using Introduction, Situation, Background, Assessment and Recommendation. The listener should understand both the concern and the action needed.

In “Calling from a clinic about sudden breathlessness”, use the task in the reading card to decide what to assess, explain and record in gp. Practise a telephone escalation, a shift handover or a transfer of care. Prepare a brief opening, relevant background, measured findings and an explicit request. Do not delay emergency assistance to finish a routine call.

These are general rehearsal aims, not the answers to this scenario. Respond to information obtained during practice rather than a memorised solution.

Say-and-do preparation

Prepare the sequence and language with a related checklist. Online rehearsal develops thinking and explanations; physical technique needs supervised in-person practice.
