Your scenario and task
You are the RN in an emergency department. Oliver King, aged 28, is moving to a short-stay observation area after a clinician-assessed minor head injury. A second RN is receiving the handover. Review the supplied findings and give a structured bedside RN handover with the patient involved. Complete the supplied practice record. A second RN is available. You have eight minutes; describe and select physical actions in this online exercise.
What this type of station practises
Make a clear clinical request using Introduction, Situation, Background, Assessment and Recommendation. The listener should understand both the concern and the action needed.
In “RN handover after a minor head injury”, use the task in the reading card to decide what to assess, explain and record in ed. Practise a telephone escalation, a shift handover or a transfer of care. Prepare a brief opening, relevant background, measured findings and an explicit request. Do not delay emergency assistance to finish a routine call.
These are general rehearsal aims, not the answers to this scenario. Respond to information obtained during practice rather than a memorised solution.
Say-and-do preparation
Prepare the sequence and language with a related checklist. Online rehearsal develops thinking and explanations; physical technique needs supervised in-person practice.
