Your scenario and task

Harold Dean has a long-term catheter and a urine specimen awaiting dispatch. Review the specimen and care records, assess the relevant information and complete the appropriate documentation. Casey and the requesting GP are available.

What this type of station practises

Create a useful clinical record that distinguishes observations, actions, communication and response. Your notes should help the next clinician continue care.

In “A catheter specimen awaiting dispatch”, use the task in the reading card to decide what to assess, explain and record in aged-care. Practise completing a fictional observation record, a fluid balance entry or a progress note. Read existing entries first, use the supplied time and identifiers and make uncertainty visible.

These are general rehearsal aims, not the answers to this scenario. Respond to information obtained during practice rather than a memorised solution.

Say-and-do preparation

Prepare the sequence and language with a related checklist. Online rehearsal develops thinking and explanations; physical technique needs supervised in-person practice.
