Explain how your preparation, workspace and handling protect key parts and key sites. The physical technique needs observation and correction in person.

What to practise

Rehearse planning a dressing change, identifying a contamination concern or explaining the procedure to a patient. Use current infection prevention guidance; do not learn equipment handling from a spoken script alone.

This is a preparation category, not a prediction of a particular examination station. Read the candidate instructions and respond to the person and task you are given.

Make your approach clear

  • Explain the procedure and establish consent, comfort and privacy.
  • Name the parts and sites you must protect before beginning.
  • Say when you would stop and replace contaminated equipment rather than carry on.

Rehearsal prompt: “I will explain what I am checking, what I have found and what needs to happen next.” Adapt the words to the actual findings; do not memorise a claim you cannot support.

Common ways to lose the thread

  • Calling a field aseptic without explaining how it is protected.
  • Continuing after contamination.
  • Forgetting patient comfort, disposal or documentation.
