Your scenario and task

You are the RN on a hospital ward. Hannah Scott, aged 36, needs a prescribed simple postoperative dressing change to a clean abdominal incision. Assess the wound, demonstrate an aseptic dressing sequence and document the result. Complete the supplied practice record. Speak to the patient and describe each assessment as you perform it. You have eight minutes; describe and select physical actions in this online exercise.

What this type of station practises

Explain how your preparation, workspace and handling protect key parts and key sites. The physical technique needs observation and correction in person.

In “Aseptic dressing of an uncomplicated incision”, use the task in the reading card to decide what to assess, explain and record in ward. Rehearse planning a dressing change, identifying a contamination concern or explaining the procedure to a patient. Use current infection prevention guidance; do not learn equipment handling from a spoken script alone.

These are general rehearsal aims, not the answers to this scenario. Respond to information obtained during practice rather than a memorised solution.

Say-and-do preparation

Prepare the sequence and language with a related checklist. Online rehearsal develops thinking and explanations; physical technique needs supervised in-person practice.
