Your scenario and task

You are the RN in a community nursing service. Paulo Ferreira, aged 70, speaks basic English and prefers Portuguese for detailed discussion. He has a chronic lower-leg wound and a prescribed dressing plan. He says the wound looks different today. Assess the wound, demonstrate aseptic care and decide whether the plan needs review. Complete the supplied practice record. You and the patient are in the room; assistance can be called. You have eight minutes; describe and select physical actions in this online exercise.

What this type of station practises

Explain how your preparation, workspace and handling protect key parts and key sites. The physical technique needs observation and correction in person.

In “A leg wound that has changed at home”, use the task in the reading card to decide what to assess, explain and record in community. Rehearse planning a dressing change, identifying a contamination concern or explaining the procedure to a patient. Use current infection prevention guidance; do not learn equipment handling from a spoken script alone.

These are general rehearsal aims, not the answers to this scenario. Respond to information obtained during practice rather than a memorised solution.

Say-and-do preparation

Prepare the sequence and language with a related checklist. Online rehearsal develops thinking and explanations; physical technique needs supervised in-person practice.
