Your scenario and task
June Williams, 57, is awaiting planned admission for leg-ulcer care. She has asked to talk to a nurse. Find out what she needs, agree the next steps and record the discussion. RN Casey Bell, the nurse in charge, is nearby.
What this type of station practises
Help the person understand, participate and make informed choices. Good communication changes with the person’s needs rather than following a fixed speech.
In “A conversation about a planned admission”, use the task in the reading card to decide what to assess, explain and record in ward. Practise discharge education, a conversation with an anxious relative or explaining an unfamiliar procedure. Ask about language, access and cultural needs rather than making assumptions.
These are general rehearsal aims, not the answers to this scenario. Respond to information obtained during practice rather than a memorised solution.
Say-and-do preparation
Prepare the sequence and language with a related checklist. Online rehearsal develops thinking and explanations; physical technique needs supervised in-person practice.
