Your scenario and task

Mabel Shaw has become less settled during the afternoon. Review her care record and complete a focused update before handing over to RN Casey. Her daughter Ruth is present and the on-call GP is reachable.

What this type of station practises

Make a clear clinical request using Introduction, Situation, Background, Assessment and Recommendation. The listener should understand both the concern and the action needed.

In “A late-shift residential handover”, use the task in the reading card to decide what to assess, explain and record in aged-care. Practise a telephone escalation, a shift handover or a transfer of care. Prepare a brief opening, relevant background, measured findings and an explicit request. Do not delay emergency assistance to finish a routine call.

These are general rehearsal aims, not the answers to this scenario. Respond to information obtained during practice rather than a memorised solution.

Say-and-do preparation

Prepare the sequence and language with a related checklist. Online rehearsal develops thinking and explanations; physical technique needs supervised in-person practice.
