Your scenario and task

During a procedure at a GP clinic, a used needle punctures your finger through a glove. Simon Blake is seated safely. Describe your immediate actions and responsibilities afterwards. Casey is in the room. The clinic doctor is in another consulting room and can be phoned; exposure advice is available by phone.

What this type of station practises

Explain how your preparation, workspace and handling protect key parts and key sites. The physical technique needs observation and correction in person.

In “An interruption during a procedure”, use the task in the reading card to decide what to assess, explain and record in gp. Rehearse planning a dressing change, identifying a contamination concern or explaining the procedure to a patient. Use current infection prevention guidance; do not learn equipment handling from a spoken script alone.

These are general rehearsal aims, not the answers to this scenario. Respond to information obtained during practice rather than a memorised solution.

Say-and-do preparation

Prepare the sequence and language with a related checklist. Online rehearsal develops thinking and explanations; physical technique needs supervised in-person practice.
