Your scenario and task

Celia Martin, 40, has a signed order for 0.9% sodium chloride at 80 mL/hour through a left forearm cannula. Her giving set is due for change. A replacement set and supplies are on the trolley. Explain and carry out the giving-set change using ANTT, check the site and rate, and complete the progress note. Say aloud what you do at each step.

What this type of station practises

Explain how your preparation, workspace and handling protect key parts and key sites. The physical technique needs observation and correction in person.

In “Protecting the connection during an IV line change”, use the task in the reading card to decide what to assess, explain and record in ward. Rehearse planning a dressing change, identifying a contamination concern or explaining the procedure to a patient. Use current infection prevention guidance; do not learn equipment handling from a spoken script alone.

These are general rehearsal aims, not the answers to this scenario. Respond to information obtained during practice rather than a memorised solution.

Say-and-do preparation

Prepare the sequence and language with a related checklist. Online rehearsal develops thinking and explanations; physical technique needs supervised in-person practice.
