Your scenario and task
You are an RN in a GP clinic. You have just given Michael Stone an injection. As you dispose of the used syringe, the needle pierces your glove and left index finger. Michael is seated on the couch and feels well. RN Alex Morgan is in the next room and Dr Taylor Singh, the GP, is reachable by phone. Manage the sharp and injury, speak with Michael, arrange urgent exposure assessment and complete the incident note.
What this type of station practises
Explain how your preparation, workspace and handling protect key parts and key sites. The physical technique needs observation and correction in person.
In “Responding to a needlestick during clinic care”, use the task in the reading card to decide what to assess, explain and record in gp. Rehearse planning a dressing change, identifying a contamination concern or explaining the procedure to a patient. Use current infection prevention guidance; do not learn equipment handling from a spoken script alone.
These are general rehearsal aims, not the answers to this scenario. Respond to information obtained during practice rather than a memorised solution.
Say-and-do preparation
Prepare the sequence and language with a related checklist. Online rehearsal develops thinking and explanations; physical technique needs supervised in-person practice.
