Your scenario and task

You are the RN in a community nursing service. Mele Tui, aged 46, reports mild abdominal discomfort and constipation during a planned home visit. Take a focused history, describe an abdominal assessment and agree on a safe review plan. Complete the supplied practice record. You and the patient are in the room; assistance can be called. You have eight minutes; describe and select physical actions in this online exercise.

What this type of station practises

Build an assessment around the presenting concern rather than reciting every assessment you know. Combine the person’s account, relevant examination and a clear next step.

In “Abdominal discomfort during home follow-up”, use the task in the reading card to decide what to assess, explain and record in community. Practise explaining a respiratory review, a focused neurological check or a limb assessment. Use the information supplied in the reading card; do not assume findings that were never given.

These are general rehearsal aims, not the answers to this scenario. Respond to information obtained during practice rather than a memorised solution.

Say-and-do preparation

Prepare the sequence and language with a related checklist. Online rehearsal develops thinking and explanations; physical technique needs supervised in-person practice.
