Your scenario and task

You are the RN on a hospital ward. Chloe Nguyen, aged 25, has escalating pain in her left lower leg following fracture immobilisation. Perform a focused neurovascular assessment and communicate the findings. Complete the supplied practice record. You and the patient are in the room; assistance can be called. You have eight minutes; describe and select physical actions in this online exercise. The orthopaedic registrar can be telephoned.

What this type of station practises

Build an assessment around the presenting concern rather than reciting every assessment you know. Combine the person’s account, relevant examination and a clear next step.

In “Neurovascular concern beneath a new cast”, use the task in the reading card to decide what to assess, explain and record in ward. Practise explaining a respiratory review, a focused neurological check or a limb assessment. Use the information supplied in the reading card; do not assume findings that were never given.

These are general rehearsal aims, not the answers to this scenario. Respond to information obtained during practice rather than a memorised solution.

Say-and-do preparation

Prepare the sequence and language with a related checklist. Online rehearsal develops thinking and explanations; physical technique needs supervised in-person practice.
