Your scenario and task

Lily Adams suddenly collapses in a GP treatment room. She is on the floor on her back; no trauma is reported. RN Alex Morgan and her father are present. Using the standard BLS pathway, demonstrate child basic life support, coordinate 000 and AED use and hand over to arriving help. Record the event only after responsibility transfers. The patient is a manikin; address the patient and the examiner voices their answers and supplies findings. RN Alex Morgan is available. David Adams is present.

What this type of station practises

Practise recognising the need for emergency help and explaining your role in a resuscitation response. Spoken rehearsal cannot demonstrate effective compressions or safe equipment use.

In “Basic life support for a child in a clinic”, use the task in the reading card to decide what to assess, explain and record in gp. Use supervised simulation for the physical sequence. Online, rehearse how you call for help, direct a colleague and give a concise handover when the response team arrives. Refer to the current ANZCOR guidance for the clinical sequence.

These are general rehearsal aims, not the answers to this scenario. Respond to information obtained during practice rather than a memorised solution.

Say-and-do preparation

Prepare the sequence and language with a related checklist. Online rehearsal develops thinking and explanations; physical technique needs supervised in-person practice.
