Your scenario and task

Tom Fisher collapses on a dry poolside walkway after leaving the water. He has been moved clear of the pool by staff and is lying on his back. RN Alex Morgan is with you. Demonstrate basic life support and AED use, coordinate help and complete a brief event record after resuscitation responsibility is transferred. The patient is a manikin; address the patient and the examiner voices their answers and supplies findings. RN Alex Morgan is available.

What this type of station practises

Practise recognising the need for emergency help and explaining your role in a resuscitation response. Spoken rehearsal cannot demonstrate effective compressions or safe equipment use.

In “AED use after collapse beside a community pool”, use the task in the reading card to decide what to assess, explain and record in community. Use supervised simulation for the physical sequence. Online, rehearse how you call for help, direct a colleague and give a concise handover when the response team arrives. Refer to the current ANZCOR guidance for the clinical sequence.

These are general rehearsal aims, not the answers to this scenario. Respond to information obtained during practice rather than a memorised solution.

Say-and-do preparation

Prepare the sequence and language with a related checklist. Online rehearsal develops thinking and explanations; physical technique needs supervised in-person practice.
